Meet Zappa!

If you want affection, this is your dog!

Zappa is a 6 lb. ball of adorable long-haired Chihuahua love. He groans with contentment when you rub his ears. You can hold him like a baby and give him belly and chin rubs. This guy is irresistible.
Quiet in the house, he only cries when you don’t let him come with you (i.e. close the bathroom door or put a puppy gate between you & him). If you look at him while you're eating, he will talk to you and turn in circles. He’ll occasionally bark with excitement at mealtime, but his indoor noise is very manageable.
Outside is a different matter. He’s a good guard dog, taking his duties very seriously with lots of barks at strangers. Picking him up or spraying him with a bit of water quiets him. He’s so small that his ferocity brings a smile to most people’s faces.
When you come home, Zappa is beside himself with joy to see you. He’ll turn circles until you sit down. Once he’s gotten all the love-wiggles out, he likes to snuggle.
Zappa loves other dogs, and enjoys playing with dogs that aren’t TOO much bigger than he is. He is a bit aggressive towards cats, but can easily be put in his place with a good swat from the resident cat.
He walks well on an extendable leash, but would probably adapt well to a regular lead. He mostly wants to stay by your side, only venturing away in the interest of warning strangers or other dogs.
Zappa was not neutered when he came into rescue at around 5 years of age. He is able to hold his bladder for 8-9 hour stretches—all through the night, and all day in his kennel—but he does display some marking behaviors indoors. This may improve with being neutered (scheduled for 9/16), and will improve with gentle correction, and potty-training techniques.

Zappa is an absolute sweetheart. He is close to a perfect companion dog now, and with a bit of work and care, he could easily be the dog-love of your life.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
