Description:

Laverne aka LuLu, is a sweet, playful and gentle dog looking for her perfect furever!

Update from the foster:

What LuLu has accomplished in a Foster Home:

Being a total love: LuLu is happiest when she's getting a back or belly rub next to one of her people. For such a young dog, it's surprising that she doesn't lick or play-bite; the most she'll do is gently nudge your hand to activate it for petting. Such a sweet little lady!

Crate training: Going well! LuLu is in her crate whenever someone isn't petting, playing, or walking with her in order to minimize the chance of potty accidents happening and to encourage comfort in the crate. She is quite good in her crate but will sometimes fuss a bit when she first goes in or feels like she has been in there for a while. Her crate is in the kitchen during the day but in my bedroom at night so that I know if she needs to go outside.

Potty training: She is on a schedule and doing well! LuLu had an accident in her crate the first night, but I think it was due to her shock at the snow + cold. (She's from Oklahoma after all.) Plus, I didn't have her crate in my room. I shoveled the snow off a patch of grass, and it did just the trick for her–no more accidents! Interesting note: She poops in the same exact location every time, and her pee area range is small too. Easy clean-up!

Discovering her toy stash: Her favorite toy so far is her set of balls–it’s so cute to watch her try to pick up two at a time! She plays fetch and drops the ball nicely to you or lets you gently grab it from her mouth. She also likes her chew toy in her crate and her tiny stuffed animals.

Supervised exploration of the house: LuLu has mastered the short deck steps and going up the basement stairs (and soooo close to mastering going down the basement stairs). Also, she's good at jumping on and off the couch. She likes to take her balls up there, push them off, and then chase after them!

Leashed walking: Getting better and better! After a couple of false starts, LuLu has been successful in walking on a leash around the neighborhood. She took a really long walk with my sister's Maltipoo this evening and really enjoyed it! She is startled by the new city noises, so she definitely needs to wear a secure harness.

Dog socializing: Pretty good! She ignores the labradoodle on the other side of the fence, but she reacted with some timidness/low growling when meeting my sister's Maltipoo inside my house. However, after they went for a walk together, they became best buds and played chase in the house all evening!

People socializing: Pretty good! She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but she loves getting pets and chasing balls! Soon enough, she's climbing into laps. :)

Kid socializing: Mixed results. She acted excited and wagged her tail when my nephew (11) and niece (5) came into my house, but as soon as I took her out of her crate, she got very shy and avoided them. I'm hopeful that she'll get more comfortable around them with time.

*The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called "cute" as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification!

Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.

*Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
